Protest For The Release Of Samuel Ogundipe At Police Headquarters

Nigerians protest at police headquarters, demand release of Premium Times journalist

Shortly after NOT IN MY COUNTRY condemned the detention of Premium Times Journalist, Samuel Ogundipe, Nigerians have stormed the police head quarters in a protest led by Charly Boy, requesting the Immediate release of Samuel Ogundipe!

Several protesters on Thursday stormed the police headquarters in Abuja to demand the release of a PREMIUM TIMES journalist, Samuel Ogundipe.

The protesters defied stern gun-wielding police officers to carry out the protest in the Nigerian capital.

Led by Deji Adeyanju and Charles Oputa of the #OurMumuDoneDo movement, the protesters asked that the journalist be released immediately.

Mr Ogundipe was arrested and detained on Tuesday for refusing to disclose his source for a story. He was secretly tried by the police on Wednesday and denied access to legal representation at the trial.

The journalist and PREMIUM TIMES have denied any wrongdoing.

The detention of the journalist has been condemned by local and international rights
groups including Amnesty International and Committee to Protect Journalists.
